It’s easy to get excited about a project and get carried away quickly, burning the candle at both ends.  So often people forget to pace themselves and get excited initially and burn out too soon.  It’s all too familiar with a story, just like the Tortoise and The Hare  Slow and steady always wins the race.

But how do we maintain a state of “steady” like our friend the tortoise who made it to the finish line with ease?  How do we avoid becoming the manic hare who wants to do it all, rushes into things without a strategy or consistent effort and quits before he’s even reached the half way mark?

Staying motivated is a process of keeping your eye on the goal and never looking away.  By taking the proper actions to keep your motivation up, you can achieve anything.  Follow these motivation tips, and watch your projects soar,

Step Away From Your Project

Sometimes the most productive thing to do is not to be productive at all.  Try taking a moment to reflect on all the reasons that you’re doing your project in the first place.  Why did you begin?  How can you be the best that you can be at your task and how did other people before you do so?

If you are a writer, take a break from your writing and read.  Instead of being the actor, step away and be the audience.  Be willing to be inspired by reading a how-to guide on your craft, or a biography of a writer you admire.

Develop a Strategy

Making a realistic timeline for yourself and plugging it into a calendar with specific checkpoints is a crucial tactic when setting goals for yourself.  Try making 5 goals a month for yourself.  Each time you check them off you become more and more motivated to keep up the good work.

Successful people all tend to share the same habit of habitual goal setting and achieving.  It’s your way of patting your own self on the back for positive reinforcement.  After all, who is more satisfying to please that pleasing yourself?

Ask For Help

Sometimes when we feel ourselves slipping we have to be willing to be humble.  Don’t be afraid to reach out to an expert or friend and ask for motivational tips. Stay open minded and be coachable.

Sometimes the very motivation we need has been sitting in front of us the entire time within a friend or colleague.

Change Atmosphere

When we are in a state of stagnant energy, we stop creating.  How can we be inspired without being open to inspiration around us?  Change up your scenery every now and then to keep your mind fresh.

Perhaps a new cafe, or even opening a window could be just the motivation you need to see things in a new light.
