Many people make the decision to start their own beauty business only to find that they thought the customers would just appear magically.  When you decide to become a business owner, it is your job to seek out the clients, and more importantly, retain them.

Unlike other businesses, beauty is something that isn’t a one time purchase.  You have the potential of keeping a customer for life since beauty requires upkeep and maintenance.  How do you go about doing this? Here are some of the best secrets for finding customers and keeping them around.

Use Social Media To Your Advantage

Try to recall the last time that you started searching for a hair salon or other beauty treatments in your area.  Chances are that you did a Google search and were directed towards a page on social media.  Most people use internet results that they come across as a barometer for how much credibility a salon has.

If you see a page with thousands of likes and lots of well composed and professional photos of the services offered, you are probably going to opt for them over a place which has very little internet presence and a lack of a portfolio of their work.

Try to ask your customers to use Instagram or Facebook after receiving your services and tagging your business.  If you did work that you are proud of, make sure that you post it as well so that people can see how great you are.

Don’t Be Shy To Promote Yourself

No successful business person got to where they are by sitting in a corner and waiting for someone else to do the job for them.  When it comes to getting your name out there, you can’t be shy to let people know you’re the best.

The first step is realizing that everyone that you come across is a potential customer.  If someone starts talking about how they need to get their hair done, or have been looking for the best place for an eyebrow wax, that’s your cue to jump in and talk yourself up.

If you display confidence in your work, that will translate to other people and they will want in on what it is that you are offering.

Always Carry Business Cards

You never know when you are going to meet someone that might be your best customer for life.  Don’t let the opportunity pass you by through taking the risk that one of you doesn’t have a pen and paper on hand to exchange information.

Always carry a pack of business cards with you so that you can easily make sure they have your contact information.
